SIDE CAPTAINS

One Selector for each side will act as Side Captain for the season and will carry out the following functions:

·       Post side selections on the Selectors’ Room notice board.

·       Advise details to the Club’s Bowls Victoria Liaison Officer who will update the Club Website and BowlsLink Victoria.

·       Appoint a Side Manager for each round and provide guidance for new appointees.

·       Allocate Inside and Outside Duty Rosters for home games.

·       Prepare Side Manager’s box with team members names entered on scorecards, and performance evaluation slips, together with money bags.

·       Where a Side Captain is unavailable one of the other Selectors will be delegated to stand in.

SIDE MANAGER

For home games, ensure that Skips responsible for Inside and Outside Duty Rosters are aware of their appointment and their teams’ responsibilities to assist in completion of the duties.

Ensure that at least a 15-minute break is taken in the middle of a Pennant game, with particular concern on hot days for our older players. Our Club’s policy is that this is mandatory when the temperature is forecast to be 30 degrees or above.

·       Before The Game:

o   Collect the Side Manager’s box from the Selectors’ Room and check that the scorecards and performance assessment slips are correctly filled out [alter if necessary]

o   For home games, note the allocated rinks on the Selectors’ Room rear wall.

o   Meet with the opposition’s Side Manager half an hour before the game and place our scorecards face down above or below theirs to match teams.

o   Note who is the Umpire in case reference is needed.

o   The home team allocates the rink numbers and marks them on the cards.

o   Place our players names [either written or a printed label] on their cards for each team. If available give a printed label to the opposition.

o   Toss a coin for the mat and record it on all cards.

o   Distribute money bags, scorecards and performance slips to each of the 2nds on your side.

·       During the Game:

o   Be prepared to be called upon to make a decision on behalf of our side wherever under a law, regulation, policy or the Bowls Victoria Metropolitan Conditions of Play [COP] gives a right of decision choice.

o   If necessary, refer to the Umpire or the COP for advice on:

▪       Weather suspension or cancellation

▪       Appeals to the Umpire

▪       Late start or use of substitutes

o   If the Side Managers cannot agree, call in the Umpire.

o   Side Managers should familiarize themselves with the Conditions of Play which are posted on Bowls Victoria’s website, and a copy of which is contained in the Umpire’s box for our home games.

·       After the Game:

o   Collect money bags, scorecards and performance evaluation slips from each 2nd.

o   Check our scorecards with the opposition Side Manager to ensure that each team’s scorecards agree and have been signed off by both teams.

o   Put scorecards and performance assessment slips in the Manager’s Box and leave them on the bench in the Selectors’ Room.

o   Check the money is counted, put it into a single envelope showing the amount and the Side that it relates to. Either put it in the Club safe or entrust it to a member who has access to the safe.
