SKIP
▪ For away games, check if a team member needs help with transport, ie ride share.
▪ Make sure your team members are aware of their selection and will attend.
▪ Direct a strategy to building the head.
▪ Provide each bowler with feedback as to the result of each shot [be positive in your comments an avoid negative language).
▪ Maintain performance assessment detail where necessary and return it to the 2nd after the game.
3RD POSITION
▪ Act as Measurer, You must agree with your opposing Measurer before signaling the result of the end to your Skip and to your 2nd.
▪ You and your opposing Measurer must not allow any outside interference in determining the result. If you can’t agree, refer to the Umpire for a decision
▪ You are not to solely rely on visual measurement of distances when comparing close bowls.
▪ Take notice of any Skip’s direction or advice both before and after delivery of each bowl.
▪ If the previous end was won by our side, place our Skip’s first bowl on or near the mat as a courtesy before exchanging ends with Skip who is next to bowl.
▪ You act as substitute Skip while Skip is bowling, but the convention is that you don’t offer advice unless your Skip asks for it.
▪ Fill out performance assessment slip where necessary and return it to the 2nd after the game.
2ND POSITION
▪ Before the game, collect fees from each member of your team.
▪ Distribute performance assessment slips to all team members.
▪ Act as Scorer. After each end you must agree your progressive scorecard with your opposing Scorer.
▪ Take notice of any Skip direction or advice both before and after delivery of each bowl.
▪ When playing at home, update your scoreboard after each end, and if you are on the nearest rink to the combined scoreboard, update it from time to time as the games progress.
▪ After agreeing on the final game scores, complete our score card and sign both the opposition’s and our score cards.
▪ Fill out performance assessment slip where necessary and collect slips from other team members.
▪ Return score card, monies and enveloped performance assessment slips to the Side Manager after the game.
▪ Do not interfere with the 3rds when they are measuring. It is their sole responsibility.
LEAD
▪ If you win the mat, place the mat where your Skip requests it and roll the jack to the length requested by Skip. If the jack finishes in the ditch or out of bounds, the opposition Lead gets to replace the mat and roll the jack. You retain first bowl.
▪ Take notice of any Skip’s direction or advice both before and after delivery of each bowl.
▪ If an end is lost, rake the bowls before the start of the next end, placing the bowls at least 1 metre behind, and to the left side of the mat.
▪ Fill out performance assessment slip where necessary and return it to the 2nd after the game.
▪ Do not interfere with the 3rds while they are measuring. It is their sole responsibility.
DUTY ROSTERS FOR HOME GAMES – INSIDE DUTIES
The Inside Duty Team Skip should see that his/her team members are aware of their duties and assist:
· Before the game:
o Set up cups and saucers for 8 bowlers per table.
o Fill milk jugs and place on tray in the fridge.
o Each table to have a rink number, teaspoons, serviettes, coffee and sugar on a tray with sweet biscuits in their container.
o Set up teapots and water pots beside the boiling water unit with 4 teabags in each teapot.
o If having a raffle, put out on each table a plastic bowl for the money and another with raffle number tokens.
· At the tea break:
o Fill the teapots and water pots and put one out on each table together with a milk jug
· After the tea break:
o Clear all the tables and give raffle money to the Side Manager.
o Place used items in the dishwasher and do as many loads as possible before resuming the game.
· After the game:
o Finish with the dishwasher
o Return all items to the cupboards
o Wipe down tables and benches
Note: During the Summer Bowls Pennant season, the Club will employ someone to perform some of these duties at and after the tea break.
DUTY ROSTERS FOR HOME GAMES - OUTSIDE DUTIES
The Outside Duty Team Skip should see that his/her team members are aware of their duties and assist:
To be completed by 9am Tuesdays and 11.30am Saturdays:
o Check rink allocation on the Selectors’ Room rear wall Notice Board.
o Check rink markers and pegs are all in the correct position.
o Put out 2 mats and 1 jack on each match play rink.
o Put 2 mats and 1 jack for rinks designated for practice.
o If necessary, clear leaves and debris from the bowling surface
To be completed before games start:
o Place corner flags
o Hoist Australian flag on center pole and Club flag on its right.
o Place progressive scoreboard[s] near corner of green[s].
o Put out the Umpire’s box near a progressive scoreboard.
o Turn all scoreboards to zero.
o Turn on water cooler.
o Put out bowls scoops at both ends of each match play rink.
o If necessary, pull out shade cloths.
To be done after games finish:
o Return all equipment.
o Turn off water cooler.
o Roll up shade cloths.
o Pull out pegs which are near sprinkler heads on each end of rink 12 [this is to allow clear automatic sprinkling].
Note equipment locations:
o Progressive scoreboards, bowls scoops, and rake are in the equipment shed.
o Pole flags and corner flags are in the Locker Room cupboard.
o Umpire’s box is outside the Ladies Locker Room.
o Mats and jacks are near the main entrance door.
